1 You can tell when it's tight

The tab in the middle flexes as the line pulls. When its two marks line up, that's it. You can read it at a glance, even by headlamp.

2 Grip for cold hands

The deep ribs along the side and the base are there so you can pull hard with gloves or mittens on without it slipping.

3 It cleans the line as it passes

The serrated edge on the other side scrapes the mud off the line before it runs through the guides. Less dirt inside, fewer jams.

4 Everyone knows whose it is

The raised panel in the middle is the ID plate. The name goes there, and there it stays.
